Pastor Abidemi Odukoya and his wife, Adenike, died following a violent domestic incident that shocked residents of Akinode/Ibogun community.

A tragic domestic incident has claimed the lives of a Celestial Church of Christ evangelist, Abidemi Odukoya, and his wife, Adenike, in the Akinode/Ibogun community of Ogun State, Nigeria.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday, August 31, when Odukoya, who served as the Shepherd of the church’s Iri Orun Parish, allegedly attacked his wife during a domestic dispute.

According to accounts from residents, the situation turned violent when the cleric allegedly used a machete to inflict injuries on his wife.

Neighbours were reportedly alerted by cries for help and rushed to the couple’s residence, where they found Adenike lying in a pool of blood.

A community leader, Chief Taiwo Akiode, said the woman appeared to have sustained a machete wound and may also have been struck with a stool during the altercation.

The circumstances surrounding what triggered the confrontation remain unclear.

Pastor allegedly flees scene

Following the incident, Odukoya reportedly fled the community and headed towards Coker Junction, along the Ifo axis of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

Residents said he was later seen around the expressway, where he reportedly crossed the road several times before eventually sitting on the median.

According to eyewitness accounts, the pastor subsequently moved in front of an approaching truck and was fatally struck.

The impact reportedly killed him at the scene.

Both husband and wife were later buried beside their residence. Adenike was reportedly buried first, while Odukoya’s remains were brought back to the community later that evening for burial.

Community in shock

The deaths have left residents of Akinode/Ibogun in shock, particularly because the couple were reportedly regarded as peaceful and friendly members of the community.

Community leaders said the couple had lived in the area for about nine or 10 years and were not known to engage in public quarrels.

Residents are now struggling to come to terms with how what appeared to be a private domestic dispute could end in the deaths of both husband and wife within hours.

The incident has also raised fresh concerns about domestic violence and the importance of seeking help when conflicts within families become difficult to manage.

The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths, while further details about the alleged attack and the events that preceded Odukoya’s death are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
