Claire Chadwick, who was 37 weeks pregnant and expecting a baby girl, reportedly died from septic shock after developing complications in Nigeria. Her family has launched a £10,000 fundraising appeal to bring their remains back to the UK for burial.
A 40-year-old British woman, identified as Claire Chadwick, has died alongside her unborn daughter after reportedly developing a severe infection that led to sepsis while in Nigeria.
Claire, who was 37 weeks pregnant, was expecting her first reported baby girl with her Nigerian husband, Ibrahim, when tragedy struck.
According to information surrounding the incident, the expectant mother developed medical complications that resulted in the death of her baby in the womb. Her condition subsequently deteriorated, and she reportedly died from septic shock.
Claire had relocated from the United Kingdom to Nigeria to build a new life with her husband. The couple had also become familiar faces on social media, where they regularly shared videos documenting their relationship, faith and everyday experiences.
Through their TikTok and Instagram accounts, they entertained followers with personal moments, food challenges and content showcasing their life together.
News of their deaths has left family members and supporters devastated, particularly as the couple had been preparing to welcome their baby girl.
Following the tragedy, Claire's family launched a GoFundMe fundraising campaign with a target of £10,000 to cover the cost of repatriating her remains and those of her unborn daughter to the United Kingdom.
Her sister, Shannon, explained that the family's greatest wish was to bring both mother and child home so they could receive a dignified burial surrounded by relatives and loved ones.
Describing Claire as a woman who lived life according to her own convictions, Shannon said her sister was strong-minded, independent and someone who left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.
The fundraising appeal is aimed at helping the grieving family navigate the difficult arrangements and give Claire and her daughter a final farewell in their home country.
Their deaths have also drawn attention to the devastating consequences of severe infections during pregnancy and the importance of timely medical intervention when complications arise.
