Police Commissioner Wilfred Afolabi says security operations across the state also led to the recovery of 30 stolen vehicles and the arrest of suspects linked to several criminal activities.

The Abia State Police Command has rescued 10 children allegedly stolen from their families, arrested 109 suspects, and recovered 15 firearms and 30 stolen vehicles during security operations across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, disclosed this on Friday, November 6, while presenting the command’s operational report covering September 11 to November 6. He said the operations also resulted in the arrest of 89 males and 20 females in connection with 211 reported criminal cases.

Afolabi said the rescued children had been reunited with their families following intelligence-led operations. He specifically cited the recovery of seven-year-old Chiamaka Chikeze and nine-month-old Goodluck Chikeze, who were allegedly stolen on October 11.

Two suspects were arrested over the incident and subsequently charged in court.

The command also arrested suspects linked to the October 17 attack on the Uratta Divisional Police Headquarters.

According to Afolabi, preliminary investigations indicated that one of the suspects allegedly confessed to leading the gang behind the attack, while efforts continued to track down other accomplices.

In separate operations, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested two suspects at Ubakala in Umuahia South Local Government Area and recovered two locally made firearms, 16 live cartridges, and four spent cartridges.

Police also dismantled a five-man vehicle theft syndicate, recovering a Toyota Corolla with registration number ROU 9338J.

Two suspected cultists were further arrested on October 31 over an alleged armed robbery targeting students of Abia State University, Uturu. A locally fabricated firearm was recovered, while one suspect allegedly admitted membership in the Black Axe Confraternity.

The police commissioner attributed the successes to intelligence gathering, proactive policing, and cooperation with other security agencies.

He urged residents to provide timely information and work with security operatives to strengthen efforts against crime across the state.
