Mohbad: Court-Supervised DNA Samples Collected From Singer’s Remains, Son Liam

Samples were collected from the late singer’s remains and his son, Liam, under strict court supervision in Lagos, as the prolonged paternity dispute enters a crucial stage.

The long-running paternity controversy surrounding late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has reached a significant milestone following the collection of DNA samples from his remains and his son, Liam.

The exercise, conducted on Saturday, October 31, 2026, was carried out under strict court supervision and heavy security arrangements to prevent any disturbance during the sensitive process.

The development followed an application by Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi Aloba, requesting a court-supervised DNA test to establish whether Liam is biologically related to the late singer.

The court granted the application and appointed a welfare officer to oversee the exercise, with October 31 fixed for the collection of the required samples.

The paternity controversy has remained a subject of intense public debate since Mohbad’s death in September 2023. The late singer’s father, Joseph Aloba, had repeatedly questioned Liam’s paternity and demanded a DNA test, although proceedings surrounding his request had experienced delays.

Following the court's approval of Omowunmi's application, arrangements were made to collect samples from both the late singer and the child.

According to reports, the exercise took place amid heightened security concerns following calls by Mohbad’s father for support from his online followers and suggestions by some social media users that protests should be staged at the venue.

Security personnel were deployed to ensure that the process proceeded without confrontation or disruption.

Emotional Moment As Mohbad’s Family Witnesses Exercise

Beyond the legal and scientific importance of the exercise, the day was reportedly an emotional experience for members of Mohbad’s family.

His mother, Abosede; younger brother, Adura; and wife, Omowunmi, were present during the proceedings.

The atmosphere reportedly became particularly emotional during the identification of the late singer’s remains, which formed part of the procedure.

Samples were first collected from Mohbad’s remains at Mainland General Hospital, popularly known as the Infectious Diseases Hospital, in Yaba, Lagos.

The collected samples were subsequently transported under tight security to the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, where samples were also obtained from Liam for forensic examination.

DNA Result Release Date Yet To Be Announced

Speaking after the exercise, the lawyer representing Omowunmi, Barrister Kabiru, disclosed that no specific date had been fixed for the release of the DNA results.

He explained that all parties involved would be formally notified through the court once the forensic examination had been completed and the results were available.

The lawyer also commended the court and the Nigeria Police Force for their professionalism and effective coordination, which ensured that the exercise was successfully conducted under adequate security.

The collection of the DNA samples represents a major step towards resolving one of the most controversial issues surrounding Mohbad’s death.

The eventual forensic findings are expected to provide scientific evidence that could help the court determine Liam’s biological paternity and bring clarity to a dispute that has continued to attract widespread public attention.
