Defence Minister Christopher Musa accepts appointment as Secretary I of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, promising to support the party while maintaining his constitutional duty to protect Nigeria.

Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd.), has pledged his commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 presidential campaign following his appointment as Secretary I of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council.

Musa, in a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the APC for the confidence reposed in him.

The minister described his appointment as a “call to higher service,” assuring the party’s leadership, stakeholders and supporters that he would approach the responsibility with diligence, discipline and focus.

He said he was prepared to contribute meaningfully to the success of the campaign council and work with other members toward achieving the objectives set by the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Musa’s acceptance of the appointment comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, with parties and political actors already beginning to strengthen their structures and mobilise support across the country.

While expressing his readiness to take on the new responsibility, the Defence Minister made it clear that his constitutional mandate as the nation’s chief defence official remains his foremost obligation.

He stressed that safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and protecting the lives and property of citizens would continue to receive his full attention.

The minister’s statement therefore struck a balance between his new political assignment within the APC campaign structure and his responsibilities as a serving member of the Federal Executive Council.

Musa assured Nigerians that his primary focus would remain the security and stability of the country, even as he contributes to the party’s preparations for the 2027 electoral contest.

His appointment adds another prominent figure from President Tinubu’s administration to the APC’s emerging campaign structure as the ruling party prepares for what is expected to be a fiercely contested election.
