Party’s New Media Director says Nigerians, not wealthy campaigners, will determine the outcome of the 2027 presidential election

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared that it is confident of defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election, arguing that financial muscle and the presence of wealthy individuals in the party’s campaign structure will not guarantee electoral victory.

The NDC Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, Theo Abu Agada, made the declaration while reacting to the composition of the APC’s 2027 presidential campaign council.

Agada dismissed concerns about the APC’s campaign machinery, insisting that the opposition party was not intimidated by the calibre or financial strength of those being assembled by the ruling party.

In a post on X, Agada said the NDC would defeat the APC regardless of the individuals appointed to lead its campaign, even suggesting that the ruling party could appoint billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk as its campaign Director-General.

“I am not the least bit moved or worried by the composition of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.

“If the party likes, let it name Elon Musk as their DG and all the moneybags in the country as their members, we will still beat them silly in 2027.”

According to Agada, the outcome of the 2027 election would ultimately be determined by ordinary Nigerians rather than the financial resources or political connections of the competing parties.

He argued that millions of Nigerians struggling with rising living costs and economic hardship would have the final say at the ballot box.

“The ordinary people whose take-home cannot even take them home are the ones who will make a bold statement in 2027,” he wrote.

The NDC communications director also accused the APC-led Federal Government of worsening poverty in the country since coming into office.

He claimed that about 140 million Nigerians had been pushed into poverty under the current administration and argued that those affected would use the 2027 election to express their dissatisfaction.

“The 140 million Nigerians that the APC-led administration has driven into poverty are the ones who will decide the 2027 election,” Agada added.

His comments come as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with parties expected to build campaign structures, mobilise supporters and position themselves ahead of the presidential and other major contests.

The APC has yet to publicly respond to Agada’s remarks.

While campaign spending, influential political figures and prominent personalities often play important roles in Nigerian elections, Agada’s argument centres on the belief that voters’ economic experiences and perceptions of government performance will be more decisive in 2027.

With the next general election still ahead, the competing parties are expected to step up their political messaging as they seek to win over Nigeria’s electorate.
