Court orders detention of Nollywood actress after alleged repeated failure to appear in court and inability to trace her bail surety
Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has reportedly been remanded at the Suleja Correctional Facility amid an ongoing legal battle involving fellow actress Mercy Johnson.
Sources familiar with the case disclosed that the legal dispute between the two actresses has been ongoing for more than two years. Angela Okorie was previously granted bail; however, she allegedly failed to honour several court appearances, prompting concern from the presiding court.
Further reports indicate that the individual who stood as her surety during the bail process could not be located, despite repeated attempts by authorities to reach them. The inability to produce the surety reportedly worsened the situation and influenced the court’s next action.
As a result, the court was said to have issued a directive to law enforcement agencies to produce the actress. Acting on the order, police officers tracked Angela Okorie to Lagos, where she was arrested.
Following her arrest, she was reportedly arraigned and subsequently remanded at the Suleja Correctional Facility pending further investigation and continuation of court proceedings.
