A Nigerian woman based in Canada, Prophetess Ezinne Nwanorue, is facing widespread backlash online after publicly celebrating the death of her mother-in-law in a series of inflammatory social media posts.

Ezinne took to Facebook on Monday to announce the passing of her husband’s mother, Comfort Chika Nwanorue, sharing a funeral poster alongside harsh remarks that quickly drew criticism. In the post, she described the deceased in derogatory terms and declared that more people she believes to be “evil” would meet a similar fate.

She also framed her comments in religious language, claiming spiritual authority as a prophetess and warning others to repent or face consequences. The tone and content of the message have been widely condemned, with many social media users accusing her of insensitivity and disrespect toward the dead.

The controversy has revived attention on Ezinne’s previously publicised marital issues. She and her husband, Franklin Chimaobim Nwanorue, had earlier gone viral over a video in which she required him to swear a public oath of fidelity before relocating to Canada. In the clip, Franklin declared that he would face death if he cheated on her, a move Ezinne said was divinely instructed.

Despite that, she later alleged on social media that her husband had been unfaithful, further fuelling public debate about their relationship.

Her latest comments have deepened scrutiny of the couple’s personal life, with many observers questioning the repeated use of social media to air private family matters. As of the time of filing this report, neither her husband nor other members of the family had issued a public response.
