Former Vice President defeats Amaechi, Hayatudeen with over 1.8 million votes at Abuja primary
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has been elected as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the forthcoming general elections, securing a decisive victory in the party’s primary.
The results were announced late Wednesday at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, following the collation of votes from across the country.
Tunde Ogbeha, the Returning Officer, declared Atiku winner after he polled a commanding 1,846,370 votes, far ahead of his closest rivals.
Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, came second with 504,117 votes, while Mohammed Hayatudeen, a former Managing Director of the now-defunct FSB International Bank, garnered 177,120 votes.
Atiku’s emphatic win positions him as the ADC’s flag bearer for the presidential race, setting the stage for what is expected to be a fiercely contested general election.
