Former Force spokesman and head of Training and Development retires as PSC screens seven AIGs for promotion under new IGP Olatunji Disu.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Frank Mba has voluntarily retired from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), bringing to a close an illustrious 34-year career marked by leadership, public communication, and international policing experience.
Until his retirement, Mba headed the Training and Development Department at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
His exit comes amid a major leadership transition within the police hierarchy following the resignation of former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun and the appointment of IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu as the 23rd head of the Nigeria Police Force by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Disu assumed office in early March 2026 after securing the endorsement of the Police Council and taking the oath of office.
Sources within the force indicated that Mba’s retirement is part of a broader restructuring within the police leadership, a development that typically follows the appointment of a new IGP, with several senior officers expected to step aside.
Meanwhile, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has invited seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) for promotion interviews to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police. The officers scheduled to appear before the commission on Friday are Margareth Ochalla, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, Ishiaku Mohammed, Zacharia Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, and Umar Shehu Nadada.
Successful candidates will be drafted into the Force Management Team to strengthen the leadership structure under the new IGP.
Mba joined the Nigeria Police Force in May 1992 as a cadet officer and quickly distinguished himself, emerging as the best graduating cadet academically at the Nigeria Police Academy, Kano.
A legal practitioner, he obtained his law degree from the University of Lagos and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002 after completing his studies at the Nigerian Law School, Abuja. He later earned a Master’s degree in Law with distinction from the University of Dundee, Scotland.
Over the years, Mba built a reputation as one of the most visible voices of the force, serving in several strategic positions, including multiple stints as the Force Public Relations Officer and spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command.
His professional development also includes participation in international programmes such as the FBI National Academy in Quantico, United States, as well as executive leadership courses at Harvard University and the University of Oxford.
Mba also represented Nigeria in global peace operations, serving in the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Liberia between 2006 and 2007.
