Earth Day 2026: Kaduna Climate Body Raises Alarm, Demands Urgent Action on Environmental Threats

KADCCAM calls for afforestation, renewable energy adoption, and stronger policies to tackle deforestation, pollution, and climate risks

Ahead of the global observance of International Mother Earth Day on April 22, 2026, the Kaduna State Climate Change Accountability Mechanism (KADCCAM) has joins the international community in reaffirming the urgent need to protect and preserve our planet.

In a statement signed by the Co-Chair, Ibrahima Yakubu, KADCCAM stresses the importance of intensified action towards addressing increasing environmental degradation and the growing impacts of climate change.

These challenges including deforestation, pollution, water scarcity, and loss of biodiversity, which continue to pose serious threats to livelihoods, public health, and sustainable development.

To tackle these issues, KADCCAM advocates for practical and sustainable solutions such as afforestation and reforestation efforts, improved waste management systems to curb plastic pollution, the adoption of renewable energy, and stricter enforcement of environmental regulations.

The Mechanism also underscores the need for climate education and increased public awareness to encourage responsible environmental practices at all levels.

Furthermore, KADCCAM calls for greater investment in climate-resilient agriculture, efficient water conservation strategies, and sustainable urban development to strengthen resilience against climate-related risks. Strong collaboration among government institutions, the private sector, civil society, and local communities remains essential to achieving lasting progress.

As the world prepares to mark this important day, KADCCAM urges all stakeholders to take proactive and sustained actions to safeguard the environment and secure a healthier, more sustainable future for Kaduna State and beyond.
