Former Kaduna governor returns to Federal High Court following temporary compassionate release as ICPC pushes forward with 10-count corruption charges.
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has returned to the Federal High Court in Kaduna as proceedings on his bail application resume amid his ongoing legal battle with anti-corruption authorities.
El-Rufai is being prosecuted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over a 10-count charge that includes alleged conversion of public assets, unlawful possession of government property, and money laundering. The case is before Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa.
The former governor had spent over a month in detention prior to the latest court sitting, with March 31, 2026, earlier scheduled for the hearing of all pending applications, including his request for bail.
Proceedings were briefly disrupted after the ICPC granted El-Rufai temporary release on March 27, 2026, on compassionate grounds following the death of his mother, Hajiya Ummar El-Rufai, in Cairo, Egypt.
With burial rites concluded, the high-profile case has now resumed, drawing renewed attention as the court considers whether to grant him bail while trial continues.
