Ex-Ekiti governor says Oyo governor has “made too many enemies,” dismisses crowd support as no guarantee of electoral victory
Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has openly declared his intention to work against Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s political ambition ahead of the 2027 elections, revealing plans to align with the Olubadan of Ibadan.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Fayose accused Makinde of alienating key stakeholders, claiming the governor has “made too many enemies” who are poised to resist his future political moves.
Fayose linked his opposition to ongoing controversies surrounding land issues tied to the Olubadan institution, describing Makinde’s actions as tantamount to “taking the land of the gods”—a remark widely interpreted as a direct reference to disputes involving traditional authority in Ibadan.
Despite suggestions that Makinde commands strong grassroots support, Fayose dismissed the significance of large crowds at political events, arguing that visible popularity does not automatically translate into electoral success.
He maintained that elections are ultimately decided by strategic alliances and deeper political dynamics, not just public displays of support.
