Four Killed, 10 Injured in Osun Highway Crash

FRSC confirms fatal collision between commercial buses along Ilesa/Akure Expressway

A road accident has claimed the lives of four people and left 10 others injured along the Ilesa/Akure Expressway at Omi Asoro Junction in Ilesa, Osun State.

The crash was confirmed on Friday by the Osun Sector Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Agnes Ogungbemi, who spoke with journalists.

While the exact cause of the accident had yet to be officially determined, sources at the scene said the crash involved a Toyota Hiace bus heading towards Akure and a Suzuki mini-bus operating within Ilesa metropolis.

A trader near the scene, identified as Tobi, said the accident occurred around 9 p.m. when the bus, reportedly carrying phone accessories and electronic appliances, collided with the intra-city mini-bus.

According to Ogungbemi, four persons lost their lives in the crash, while 10 others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

“Three victims — two adult males and a female child — died instantly, while another passenger died later,” she said.

She added that the injured included seven adults and three children. Ogungbemi also disclosed that the driver of the mini-bus involved in the crash did not possess a valid driver’s licence.

Authorities are yet to provide further details as investigations continue.
