Chelsea defender opens up on Nigeria switch after summer visit deepened his connection to his roots
Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo has reiterated his openness to representing Nigeria, saying he would be delighted to pull on the Super Eagles jersey.
The 28-year-old also revealed that a summer holiday to Nigeria deepened his connection to his roots.
The centre-back was born in London to Nigerian parents and remains eligible to represent the three-time Africa Cup of Nations winners through descent, despite having represented England across multiple youth age groups. He has never been capped at senior level.
In an interview, Adarabioyo praised Nigeria's culture and the Super Eagles' recent performances at the Africa Cup of Nations, while making clear that switching allegiance remains an attractive prospect.
"I played for England at youth level, I was born in London, but I remain attached to my country of origin, Nigeria. I spent my holidays there last summer. It's a wonderful country with a multitude of cultures.
“I followed the Super Eagles at the last Africa Cup of Nations, and they are a fantastic team. I would be delighted to wear the Super Eagles jersey, but for now, I remain focused on my club goals.”
Adarabioyo's international future has been a subject of debate for years, with his preference for England at youth level having long delayed any serious conversation about a switch to Nigeria.
His latest comments are likely to reignite interest from the Nigeria Football Federation, with Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle known to be keen on recruiting eligible players of Nigerian descent who are uncapped at senior level.
