Nigeria deliver a dominant attacking masterclass as Oshoala, Monday, Kanu, Ucheibe and Ajibade fire six past Egypt in a statement victory.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons produced a stunning attacking performance to defeat Egypt 6–2 and book their place in the next round of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

From the first whistle, the nine-time African champions showed intent, controlling possession and piling pressure on an overwhelmed Egyptian side that struggled to cope with Nigeria’s pace and movement.

Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring in the 21st minute from the penalty spot, setting the tone for what would become a long night for Egypt. Gift Monday doubled Nigeria’s lead deep into first-half stoppage time (45+2’), before Egypt pulled one back through Nadine Ghazi’s penalty at 45+10’.

Nigeria resumed the second half with the same intensity, and Uchenna Kanu extended the lead in the 57th minute with a composed finish. The Falcons continued to dominate proceedings, creating chances and dictating the tempo of the game.

Christy Ucheibe added a fourth from the penalty spot in the 81st minute, effectively putting the contest beyond reach. Although Ghazi grabbed her second goal for Egypt in the 84th minute, Nigeria responded immediately with Rasheedat Ajibade converting another penalty in stoppage time (90+1’) to cap off an emphatic victory.

The Super Falcons were clinical in front of goal, composed in midfield, and relentless throughout the encounter, underlining their status as one of the tournament’s favourites.

The result sends a strong warning to the rest of Africa as Nigeria march confidently into the knockout stage with momentum firmly on their side.
