Gunmen strike health centre and private residence in Akoko Edo as police confirm arrests linked to the incident.

Five persons, including a police inspector, have been abducted by suspected kidnappers in Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.

The incidents were disclosed in a statement issued by the National Coordinator of the Movement for the Advancement of Akoko Edo People, Bode Ekundayo.

According to Ekundayo, the first attack occurred at the Makeke Community Health Centre, where gunmen abducted a female secondary school student, Tope Oriloye, and Samuel Ilesanmi, who had accompanied his wife to the facility to seek medical care for their son.

In a separate incident, a gang of kidnappers reportedly invaded the residence of Police Inspector Segun Obanowa in the Uma/Imoga area of Akoko Edo. The attackers abducted the officer, his wife, and their daughter.

The kidnappers later released the officer’s wife, reportedly instructing her to raise ransom money for the release of her husband and daughter.

Sources said the abductors of Oriloye and Ilesanmi have contacted their families, demanding a ransom of N100 million for their freedom.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Edo State Command, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the abduction at Makeke and disclosed that suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime. Investigations are ongoing.
