Kwankwasiyya Dismisses Defection Rumours, Reaffirms Kwankwaso’s Commitment to NDC

Spokesperson says claims of planned exit are baseless, insists primaries followed INEC guidelines without disputes

The Kwankwasiyya movement has firmly debunked widespread social media reports alleging that its leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is planning to abandon the party, describing the claims as baseless and misleading.

Speaking to journalists, the movement’s spokesperson, Habeeb Saleh Mohammed, dismissed the speculation as “false and unfounded,” stressing that no such discussions have ever taken place within the group.

Mohammed underscored that the movement strictly adhered to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable during its recent primaries, noting that the process was conducted smoothly nationwide.

“In line with the law and INEC guidelines, our primaries were held on the 29th of last month across the country,” he said. “Prior to that, due processes were followed, leading to consensus in the emergence of candidates for various positions. Importantly, no complaints were raised by party members or aspirants.”

He added that the exercise concluded successfully, with results already submitted to the appropriate party leadership for further action.

Reiterating the movement’s position, Mohammed said there has never been any consideration of Kwankwaso leaving the party.

“At no point was it discussed that our leader would exit the platform. That narrative is entirely false,” he stated.

He urged the public to ignore the circulating rumours, maintaining that the Kwankwasiyya movement remains united and committed to its political objectives.

The clarification comes amid reports suggesting tensions within the party, including claims that Kwankwaso was considering withdrawing his political structure over disagreements related to candidate lists. The reports also alleged that the national leadership altered some Kano nominations to enforce a 60/40 power-sharing arrangement.

These claims, which gained traction on social media, further suggested that the NDC vice-presidential candidate might exit the party in protest over the rejection of a consensus list from the Kwankwasiyya camp. However, the movement insists such reports are inaccurate and do not reflect the true situation within its ranks.
