The suspect, travelling on a flight via Dubai, was arrested after authorities discovered 17.2kg of synthetic drugs concealed in his luggage.

Security agencies in Mauritius have seized synthetic drugs valued at approximately Rs 258 million at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, Plaisance, leading to the arrest of a foreign national.

The suspect, a 27-year-old Angolan man holding a British passport, was intercepted on January 13 upon his arrival in Mauritius. He had travelled on a flight that transited through Dubai. The arrest was carried out jointly by officers of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS) of the Mauritius Revenue Authority and the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU).

During a thorough inspection of his luggage, authorities uncovered 17.2 kilograms of synthetic drugs, concealed in the form of paste and packed inside several parcels. The illicit substances were carefully hidden within the suspect’s baggage in an attempt to evade detection.

Following the seizure, the ADSU initiated a controlled delivery operation aimed at identifying and apprehending other members of the trafficking network. However, the operation did not yield the expected results.

The suspect has since been placed under arrest on charges of drug importation, while investigations continue to trace possible accomplices and dismantle the wider drug trafficking network linked to the case.
