The examination board says 79,503 candidates secured at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics, while examination malpractice declined compared with 2025.

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has released the results of the 2026 June/July National Business Certificate (NBC) and National Technical Certificate (NTC) examinations, recording an 81.24 per cent pass rate.

NABTEB Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Aminu Mohammed, announced the results on Wednesday at a news conference in Benin City, Edo State.

Mohammed said 79,503 of the 97,863 candidates whose results were graded obtained at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.

He said the figure represented 81.24 per cent, an improvement from the 68.18 per cent recorded in 2025.

The registrar also disclosed that 89,580 candidates, representing 91.53 per cent of those graded, obtained five credits and above, with or without English Language and Mathematics.

According to him, the figure was also an improvement on the 83.28 per cent recorded in the previous year.

Mohammed attributed the improved performance to the collective efforts of candidates, teachers, schools, parents and other stakeholders across the education sector.

He said 100,069 candidates registered for the examinations, while 97,867 candidates sat for the papers, representing a 97.80 per cent attendance rate.

Of the candidates graded, 24,128, representing 24.65 per cent, were certified as craftsmen.

Mohammed said the board released the results 52 days after the final examination, describing the turnaround time as part of NABTEB’s commitment to efficient and timely service delivery.

Examination malpractice

The NABTEB boss disclosed that 847 candidates were involved in examination malpractice, with 1,554 cases recorded during the 2026 examinations.

He said the figure represented 1.55 per cent of the candidates who sat for the examinations and was lower than the figure recorded in 2025.

Mohammed said the decline in malpractice cases indicated that measures introduced by NABTEB to curb examination misconduct were yielding positive results.

He commended candidates, teachers, school authorities, parents and other stakeholders for their contributions to the improved examination performance, while urging candidates to maintain academic integrity.
