Eagles Fined for Fan Misconduct as Congo Face Stiffer Penalty Over Laser Pointers — While Coach Chelle Cries Voodoo
Both Nigeria and DR Congo have been handed FIFA fines following crowd trouble that marred their recent AFCON qualifier — with the Congolese football federation taking the bigger hit.
FIFA found Nigeria guilty of a breach under Articles 17 and 17.2.b of its Disciplinary Code after Nigerian spectators hurled objects during the match. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) was fined 1,000 Swiss francs for the disorder.
DR Congo's punishment was far steeper. Their supporters were caught using laser pointers and similar electronic devices — a direct violation of Article 17.2.d — earning the Fédération Congolaise de Football Association (FECOFA) a 5,000 Swiss franc fine, five times Nigeria's penalty.
The fallout didn't stop at FIFA's disciplinary office. Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle went a step further after the defeat, publicly accusing DR Congo officials of resorting to voodoo — adding a extraordinary twist to an already combustible fixture.
