Court denies controversial singer bail as police press nine-count charges, including theft of ₦12m Mercedes-Benz and assault on officers.

Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been arraigned before the Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State, over a nine-count criminal charge bordering on assault, theft, causing grievous harm, and resisting lawful arrest.

The Ogun State Police Command, through its spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed on Monday that the charges stem from a complaint linked to an incident that occurred on New Year’s Day at the singer’s bar in Iyana Ilogbo area of the state.

According to the prosecution, Portable allegedly assaulted his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple, alongside several police officers and other individuals during a confrontation at the premises. The case gained widespread attention following a viral video circulated on Sunday, showing the singer in police custody.

Other individuals listed as alleged victims in the charge include Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah. The court was told that two siblings of Ashabi Simple testified as witnesses to the alleged assault, although Ashabi herself was not present in court.

In addition to the assault allegations, Portable is accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at ₦12 million. The vehicle reportedly belongs to Ileyemi Damilola and was allegedly purchased from Wally Dex Auto before it went missing.

The police further alleged that the singer obstructed and assaulted a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was carrying out her official duties during the incident.

At the hearing, the presiding judge refused Portable’s bail application, citing the absence of the police officer who was allegedly assaulted. The judge ruled that the officer must appear in court before bail can be considered.

Following the ruling, Portable was remanded in custody, with the court adjourning the matter for a fresh bail hearing scheduled for January 19, 2026.
