NFF finalises two friendly matches in Yaoundé as Nigeria step up preparations to defend their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.

As preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) intensify, Nigeria’s Super Falcons will face Cameroon in two international friendly matches next month.

The fixtures were arranged following the cancellation of a proposed four-nation invitational tournament that had threatened to disrupt the team’s build-up.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed that the nine-time African champions will take on the Indomitable Lionesses in Yaoundé during the FIFA Women’s International Window from February 24 to March 7, 2026.

“The Super Falcons and the Indomitable Lionesses will clash in the Cameroonian capital on Saturday, February 28, and again on Tuesday, March 3, 2026,” the NFF stated.

The two sides last met in a preparatory friendly ahead of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where Nigeria secured a 2–0 victory at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta.

NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi said arrangements for the matches had been fully concluded in collaboration with the Cameroonian Football Federation, FECAFOOT.

“We have concluded all arrangements for the two friendly matches in conjunction with our counterparts in Cameroon,” Sanusi said.

“Our commitment is to ensure that the Super Falcons are well prepared to defend their WAFCON title in Morocco and secure qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.”

Cameroon’s football authorities also welcomed the fixtures, with FECAFOOT General Secretary Isaac Mandong describing the matches as an opportunity to strengthen ties between both federations.

The friendlies come after the cancellation of the proposed four-nation tournament that was expected to feature Nigeria, Benin Republic, Senegal and hosts Côte d’Ivoire.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that the 13th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will be held in Morocco from March 17 to April 3, 2026.

CAF also announced that the four semi-finalists at the tournament will qualify directly for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
