Dispute with alleged transport union levy collectors sparks violent protests across Ijoko, Lambe, Agbado and Akute
A commercial motorcyclist, popularly known as an okada rider, has been allegedly stabbed to death in the Ijoko area of Ogun State following a dispute over a ₦100 ticket.
The incident reportedly occurred after an argument between the rider and members of a transport union tax collection group, commonly referred to as agberos. What began as a minor disagreement over the levy escalated into a violent confrontation that left one motorcyclist dead.
The killing has since triggered widespread protests by commercial motorcyclists across Lambe, Agbado and Akute communities. Angry riders were seen confronting levy collectors in several areas, leading to disruptions in transport services and forcing many commuters to trek to their destinations.
A motorcyclist identified as Rasheed said two people were stabbed during the altercation, but only one survived.
“They were fighting over a ₦100 ticket. It started as a small argument before it escalated,” he said. “The person who was killed is a motorcyclist from Nasarawa State. His colleagues are now confronting agberos in Lambe, Ijoko and parts of Akute.”
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to obtain official confirmation from the Ogun State Police Command were unsuccessful. The police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, had yet to respond to enquiries.
