Ondo Landlady Arrested for Allegedly Poisoning Tenant’s Three-Year-Old Son

The suspect was arrested after a three-year-old boy fell ill shortly after allegedly being given a liquid substance following a dispute with his mother.

 

The men of the Nigerian Police,  Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old woman, Nafisat Lateef, for allegedly poisoning the three-year-old son of her tenant in Omifon, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

According to the police, the incident followed an argument between the suspect and the child’s mother, Rofiat.

The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Jimoh disclosed that the incident occurred on Tuesday, February 4, 2026, at about 8:30 a.m., when the suspect allegedly gave the child, identified as Abdulrasheed, a liquid substance suspected to be poisonous.

“After consuming the substance, the child began vomiting and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he received prompt medical attention,” the statement said.

Following a report of the incident, police operatives launched an intelligence-led operation and arrested the suspect.

The police spokesperson added that detectives recovered the liquid substance suspected to be poison during the investigation, noting that further inquiries are ongoing.
