Nigerian strikers shine in Turkish Super Lig as Onuachu equals Burak Yilmaz feat and Osimhen fires Galatasaray seven points clear
Nigeria's Paul Onuachu has scored in his 10th consecutive game across all competitions, while Victor Osimhen reached 170 career club goals.
The two Super Eagles strikers both found the net on Saturday, with Trabzonspor defeating Çaykur Rizespor 1-0 and Galatasaray defeating İstanbul Başakşehir 3-0 in the Turkish Süper Lig.
Six minutes into the second half, Onuachu struck from close range after a precise cut-back from Oleksandr Zubkov, extending his league scoring run to eight consecutive matches.
The record makes him the first Trabzonspor player to achieve that feat since Burak Yilmaz in 2011.
The 31-year-old has scored 12 goals during his extraordinary 10-game streak, bringing his overall tally for the season to 23 goals and two assists in 26 appearances across all competitions. He also leads the Süper Lig scoring charts with 21 league goals, five clear of Eldor Shomurodov of İstanbul Başakşehir in second place.
Meanwhile, Osimhen delivered again as Galatasaray eased past Başakşehir to extend their lead at the top of the Süper Lig to seven points — ahead of Fenerbahçe's game.
The Super Eagles striker was involved from the outset, making a sharp decoy run in the 28th minute that dragged two Başakşehir defenders out of position and created space for Noa Lang to find Wilfred Singo for the opening goal.
Osimhen then doubled the lead seven minutes into the second half, finishing after Başakşehir's defence switched off, before substitute Renato Nhaga completed the rout in the 84th minute.
The Nigerian also scored an audacious bicycle kick during his 75 minutes on the pitch before head coach Okan Buruk substituted him with one eye on Wednesday's Champions League second leg at Anfield against Liverpool.
His goal took his tally to 12 Süper Lig goals and 19 across all competitions this season. His 170 career club goals have come across 293 appearances at Royal Charleroi, Lille, Napoli, and Galatasaray.
