The Afrobeats star says he stepped away from music to grieve his mother, who died earlier this year, before returning to focus on his family.

Nigerian Afrobeats star Oluwatobiloba Anidugbe, popularly known as Kizz Daniel, has opened up about the personal reason behind his reduced presence in the music scene this year, revealing that he took a break following the death of his mother.

The singer made the disclosure while responding to a fan on X who speculated that his absence was because he was working on a new album.

Kizz Daniel dismissed the assumption, explaining that his decision to step back from music had nothing to do with recording a new project.

Instead, he said he needed time to deal with the loss of his mother and support the rest of his family.

“I paused for my Mom, not an album… Lost her this year, but I gotta keep moving for the rest of the family… sorry I came late this year.”

The candid revelation gives fans a glimpse into the personal struggle behind his relatively quiet year, as the singer continues to balance his career with the responsibilities that followed his family’s loss.

Despite the setback, Kizz Daniel indicated that he is determined to keep moving forward while remaining there for his family.

The singer had also spoken publicly in 2025 about another loss in his family, revealing that his wife’s mother died in 2024.
