Reno Omokri to Mexico, Fani-Kayode to Germany as Tinubu Names New Ambassadors

Former presidential aide Reno Omokri posted to Mexico while ex-Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode heads to Germany as Nigeria names 65 ambassadors.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment and posting of 65 ambassadors to represent Nigeria in diplomatic missions across the world, with Reno Omokri and former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode among the prominent political figures on the list.

Omokri, a former presidential aide and political commentator, was appointed Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico City, Mexico, while Fani-Kayode will serve as Nigeria’s ambassador to Germany.

Their appointments form part of a sweeping diplomatic reshuffle by the Tinubu administration aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s foreign policy engagement and repositioning its missions abroad.

A total of 31 non-career ambassadors were appointed, alongside 34 career diplomats drawn from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Other notable political figures on the non-career list include former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, who was posted to Spain; former Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (rtd), appointed ambassador to China; and former Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, posted to Canada.

Senator Ita Enang was assigned to South Africa, Senator Grace Bent to Togo, and former Lagos Deputy Governor Olufemi Pedro to Australia.

Former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Ayodele Oke, was named ambassador to France, while Senator Jimoh Ibrahim will serve as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Among the career diplomats appointed are Ambassador Mohammed Mahmud Lele to Algeria, Ambassador Ahmed Mohammed Monguno to Egypt, Ambassador Abdussalam Habu Zayyad to Senegal, and Ambassador Ibrahim Danlami to Kenya.

Others include Ambassador Ayeni Adebayo Emmanuel to Belgium, Ambassador Akande Wahab Adekola to Switzerland, and Ambassador Bako Adamu Umar to Morocco.

The appointments are expected to take effect after the necessary diplomatic processes and confirmations, as Nigeria seeks to strengthen its representation in key international capitals.
