The Al Nassr captain has secured 62 per cent of votes in the paid online poll, which invites fans to choose the greatest Ballon d’Or-winning season in football history.
Cristiano Ronaldo is leading an official Ballon d’Or fan vote to determine the greatest winning season in the award’s history.
The competition, launched on the Ballon d’Or’s official platform at the beginning of October, allows football fans to vote for a specific season rather than simply selecting their favourite player.
Ronaldo’s 2008 Ballon d’Or-winning campaign currently tops the poll with 62 per cent of the votes.
The Portuguese superstar won his first Ballon d’Or while playing for Manchester United, following a standout season that helped establish him among the world’s leading footballers.
The competition features 10 football legends who have won the prestigious award at least twice.
They include Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Ronaldo Nazário, Marco van Basten, Michel Platini, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Kevin Keegan, Franz Beckenbauer, Johan Cruyff and Alfredo Di Stéfano.
Unlike a conventional popularity poll, the competition asks supporters to select the particular season they believe represents the greatest Ballon d’Or-winning achievement.
However, participation comes at a cost, with each vote priced at €1. Fans can cast multiple votes, including voting repeatedly for the same player.
Voting is scheduled to close at midnight on October 27, giving supporters a limited window to influence the final outcome.
Ronaldo’s current lead puts his celebrated 2008 season ahead in the race, although the final result will depend on votes received before the deadline.
