Rudoni hails Nigerian midfielder’s energy and dominance after Man of the Match display against West Brom

Coventry City midfielder Jack Rudoni has praised Frank Onyeka’s commanding performance in the Sky Blues’ 2-0 Championship victory over West Bromwich Albion.

Rudoni described the Nigerian international as a dominant presence in midfield, highlighting his energy and physicality during the encounter at The Hawthorns.

Onyeka was named Man of the Match after an influential display that strengthened Coventry’s push for promotion to the Premier League.

“He’s been excellent, especially in his last two performances. He got Man of the Match today,” Rudoni said.

“He is called ‘The Tank’ for a reason. He controls the middle of the park, wins battles so many times, and frees me up as well.”

Rudoni also spoke about their growing understanding in midfield, noting the contrast between Onyeka’s relaxed personality off the pitch and his combative approach during matches.

“I get along with him really well. That’s my guy. He’s just a chill guy off the pitch, but not chill during games,” he added.

The match marked Onyeka’s second appearance for Coventry since joining on loan from Brentford, with the 28-year-old making an immediate impact.

He played a key role in the opening goal after five minutes, winning possession in midfield before releasing Milan van Ewijk, who set up Ephron Mason-Clark to score.

Rudoni added a second goal in the 32nd minute to seal back-to-back wins for the Sky Blues, following their recent victory over Middlesbrough.

Onyeka has represented Nigeria at two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, winning silver and bronze medals.

His influence was further underlined by his statistics: a 73 per cent pass completion rate from 44 attempts, eight ball recoveries, and eight duels won.
