Motunrayo Kuti delivers a fiery response after Wizkid tells Seun Kuti “I big pass your papa,” reigniting debate over legacy, respect, and the “Big Bird” nickname.
Motunrayo Kuti, daughter of late Afrobeat icon Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has publicly entered the ongoing social media feud between her brother, Seun Kuti, and Grammy-winning singer Wizkid, following controversial comments made by the singer.
The clash intensified after Wizkid fired back at Seun Kuti during an online exchange, declaring in Pidgin English, “I big pass your papa.” The remark, widely interpreted as a slight against Fela Kuti, sparked outrage and divided opinion across social media platforms.
In a heated video response that has since gone viral, Motunrayo Kuti defended her family’s legacy and directly addressed Wizkid, quoting and responding to his statement with a barrage of remarks.
She said:
“Wizkid is bigger than Fella abi. Wizkid, you are also bigger than your father. That your useless father. That one wey abandon you and your mama wey don die so. That man, Muniru. Muniru Olátúnjí Balogun. You see that Muniru Olátúnjí, you are also bigger than your useless father. As you are bigger than our own father.
Our father Fela is now bigger than your father, Muniru Olátúnjí Balogun and your mother, that woman wey die throway like cockroach. Yes, Fela big pass those two.”
Her comments immediately drew widespread reactions, with many users condemning the language used, while others rallied behind the Kuti family in defence of Fela’s enduring influence on African music and political consciousness.
The feud itself reportedly began over the nickname “Big Bird.” Seun Kuti uses “Big Bird Kuti” as his Instagram handle, while Wizkid has long been associated with the nickname “Big Bird.” What started as a disagreement over branding soon escalated into a personal exchange that pulled in family legacy and generational influence.
As the controversy continues to trend online, fans and commentators remain sharply divided, with some calling for restraint and others arguing that Fela Kuti’s legacy should never be invoked in celebrity disputes.
