Nigeria outlast the Pharaohs 4–2 on penalties after a tense goalless playoff, ending their Africa Cup of Nations campaign on a winning note.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles secured a third-place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after edging past Egypt 4–2 on penalties following a goalless draw at the end of regulation time.

The third-place playoff was a tightly contested encounter, with both sides creating chances but failing to break the deadlock over 90 minutes. With no extra time played, the match was decided by a penalty shootout, where Nigeria displayed greater composure and accuracy.

Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi, Moses Simon and Akor Adams all calmly converted their spot-kicks for the Super Eagles, who took the first penalty and maintained the advantage throughout the shootout.

Egypt, by contrast, faltered under pressure. Mahmoud Saber and Ramy Rabia scored their penalties for the Pharaohs, but misses from Omar Marmoush and captain Mohamed Salah proved costly.

Nigeria’s victory sealed a morale-boosting end to their AFCON campaign, as the Super Eagles finished the tournament in third place and reaffirmed their status among Africa’s football heavyweights.
