“They Killed Two Teachers to Pressure Government” — Rescued Oyo Principal Recounts Captivity Horror

Mrs. Rachael Alamu says abductors executed colleagues in calculated bid to force concessions as freed pupils and staff are handed over to Oyo government

The rescued principal of Community High School, Esiele, in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Mrs. Rachael Folawe Alamu, has revealed that two teachers abducted alongside her and several pupils were deliberately killed by their captors in a bid to pressure the government.

Alamu spoke during the official handover of the rescued schoolchildren and teachers by the military to the Oyo State Government, describing the killings as a calculated move by the terrorists to force authorities into meeting their demands.

According to her, the first victim, identified as Mr. Michael, was killed on the second day of their abduction, while a second teacher, simply identified as Deacon, was murdered on the first Sunday of June.

“The terrorists killed Mr. Michael, the first teacher, on the second day of our abduction and killed Deacon, the second teacher, on the first Sunday of June,” she said. “They did it deliberately because they believed it would force the hand of the government to give them whatever they wanted.”

Her account sheds more light on the grim conditions endured by the victims during their time in captivity, and underscores the brutal tactics employed by the abductors.

The victims were recently freed following weeks in captivity, with the military successfully securing their release before handing them over to state authorities in Ibadan.

The Oyo State Government has since assured residents of continued efforts to strengthen security and prevent a recurrence of such incidents, while calls for a thorough investigation into the abduction have intensified.
