Health officials confirm postpartum complications claimed the life of Hafsatu Yusuf as her five newborns remain stable under hospital care.
Tragedy has struck in Kano State as a woman, Hafsatu Yusuf, passed away just hours after delivering quintuplets at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
The Kano State Ministry of Health confirmed that Yusuf died in the early hours of Thursday, March 26, following complications after childbirth. According to the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa, the mother experienced severe and persistent bleeding after giving birth to five babies—three boys and two girls.
Despite intensive efforts by medical personnel to stabilise her condition, she could not be saved.
“She had been bleeding since after delivery, and all efforts by doctors to control the situation were unsuccessful,” K/Na’isa stated.
The deceased has since been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites at her residence in Hotoro.
Meanwhile, the five newborns are reported to be in stable condition and are currently receiving specialised care at the hospital. Health authorities have appealed to the public for support, particularly in providing milk and essential supplies for the babies.
The ministry had earlier announced the successful delivery of the quintuplets, noting that both the mother and her babies were placed under close medical supervision before the unfortunate turn of events.
