Manchester City completed the signing of Argentina international Enzo Fernández from Chelsea as the Premier League summer transfer window closed at midnight on Tuesday, bringing an end to a busy deadline day marked by several high-profile moves.

Fernández, 25, has signed a five-year contract with City that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2031.

The World Cup and Copa América winner expressed his excitement at joining the Premier League champions and said he was looking forward to helping the club compete for more major honours.

Manchester City’s Director of Football, Hugo Viana, described Fernández as a complete midfielder whose quality and versatility would strengthen the squad.

The move brings an end to Fernández’s spell at Chelsea after he joined the London club from Benfica. During his time at Stamford Bridge, the Argentine established himself as one of the club’s key midfielders.

Chelsea confirm Sánchez and Mudryk departures

Chelsea also confirmed a number of departures as the deadline approached.

Goalkeeper Robert Sánchez joined Serie A side Como on a season-long loan.

Sánchez made 112 appearances for Chelsea after moving to Stamford Bridge from Brighton in 2023. He was part of the squad that won the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup during his time with the club.

Ukraine international Mykhailo Mudryk also secured a season-long loan move, reuniting with former coach Roberto De Zerbi.

Mudryk said he was eager to begin the new chapter of his career, with the winger expected to bring his pace and creativity to his new side.

De Zerbi, who previously worked with Mudryk, backed the forward to make an impact, highlighting his attacking qualities and ability to take on defenders in one-on-one situations.

Sunderland, Crystal Palace make late additions

Sunderland also strengthened their squad by completing the signing of Belgian winger Malick Fofana from Lyon on a long-term contract.

Fofana becomes Sunderland’s fifth signing of the summer as the club continues to build its squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

Crystal Palace, meanwhile, completed the signing of Netherlands midfielder Quinten Timber on a contract running until 2031.

The deal adds further midfield depth to Palace as the club looks to build on its recent progress and compete strongly across domestic and European competitions.

Another notable move saw England international Jack Grealish return to Everton on loan from Manchester City for the 2026/27 season.

Grealish spent the previous campaign with the Merseyside club and will now continue his spell at Everton as part of another temporary move away from City.

Transfer window closes

The Premier League summer transfer window officially closed at midnight on Tuesday, bringing an end to weeks of intense activity across England’s top flight.

Although the deadline has passed, clubs can still announce some deals after the official closing time where the necessary paperwork was submitted to the relevant authorities before the deadline.
