Widow of late Nigerian boxer Gabriel “Success” Olanrewaju alleges family withheld donations and proceeds, while relatives deny the claims.
A dispute has erupted between the widow of late Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun “Success” Olanrewaju and his family over donations and assets following his death in Ghana.
Last year, accusations surfaced suggesting that the widow, Adebusola, was somehow responsible for his death, according to reports.
Adebusola claims that funds paid by the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) were completely withheld from her and their two children by her late husband’s relatives.
“All the money I was helped to recover from the GBA, Segun’s family took everything,” Adebusola said.
“We didn’t get anything to support our basic needs, and my parents have been the ones helping me. I can’t hold a serious job since my children are still very young.”
According to Adebusola, Ghana paid $3,000 following the incident. Of this, $1,000 (approximately N1.5 million) was taken by the family, while the children received $2,000 (around N3 million) but with severe restrictions. The condition imposed was that the money would remain inaccessible until the children turn 18, which is in 16 years.
She also alleged that her late husband’s commercial bus was sold without her receiving any proceeds.
Reacting to the claims, Olanrewaju’s family denied the allegations. His sister, Anuoluwapo, insisted that the family treated Adebusola with respect, implying that she had not reciprocated the same regard.
