Tinubu, governors hail tough reforms as party leaders vow stronger unity and 2027 victory at Eagle Square gathering

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has re-elected Professor Nentawe Yilwatda as its National Chairman, with Surajudeen Basiru emerging as National Secretary, following the party’s 4th Elective National Convention held Friday night at Eagle Square, Abuja.

The convention, themed “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” drew more than 8,000 delegates and concluded with the emergence of members of the National Working Committee (NWC) through a consensus arrangement after hours of intense deliberations.

Among those retained in key positions are Felix Morka as National Publicity Secretary and Dayo Israel as National Youth Leader, underscoring the party’s preference for continuity in its leadership structure.

Addressing party faithful, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu acknowledged the difficulty of ongoing reforms but insisted they were necessary to reset Nigeria’s trajectory.

“We knew rebuilding Nigeria would require courage, patience, and difficult decisions. But we also knew that no nation rises by hiding from the truth,” Tinubu said.

Echoing the president’s stance, Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, described the reforms as foundational steps toward economic stability and long-term prosperity.

“Through difficult but necessary reforms, he has demonstrated vision, resolve, and uncommon foresight. Today, the foundation for a more stable, productive, and prosperous economy is being firmly laid,” Uzodimma noted.

Earlier, Chairman of the Convention Planning Committee, Bello Masari, projected confidence in the APC’s dominance, declaring the party prepared to face any opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In his acceptance speech, Yilwatda framed his re-election as a renewed mandate to serve, pledging to strengthen the party and deliver electoral victories.

“We are ready to serve, ready to lead, and ready to build the party—together with the nation,” he said, assuring members that the NWC would not fall short of expectations.

The high-profile event was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, APC governors, and other top party stakeholders, reflecting the party’s show of unity ahead of future political contests.
