PDP chieftain condemns alleged call for internal sabotage in opposition party, says remarks were “utterly wrong” and undermine democracy

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Chief Olabode George, has strongly reacted to comments allegedly made by the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, concerning the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

According to Daily Trust, Gbajabiamila was captured in a video speaking to a member of the House of Representatives, Leke Abejide, where he encouraged him to remain in the ADC and “fight” within the party. He was quoted as saying the lawmaker should stay put, resist opposition within the party, and “scatter them” rather than defect.

In the remarks attributed to him, Gbajabiamila reportedly said:

“I know you to be a committed party man, someone who does not like to be cheated. So please, stay in that same ADC. Fight them. Scatter them. Hold on to your party. Do not abandon it.”

Reacting during an interview on Arise News Television on Wednesday, Bode George condemned the statement, describing it as inappropriate and dangerous for Nigeria’s political space.

He said Gbajabiamila, whom he referred to as a “younger brother,” should not have made such remarks and must take responsibility for them.

“I have also seen the video of my younger brother Femi Gbajabiamila. People make mistakes but I did not, under any circumstances, believe that he would make that kind of mistake,” George said.

“He was utterly wrong and he must apologize to the public for that statement. That is my stance. He is my brother and I cannot denounce him,” he added.

George insisted that encouraging division within an opposition party was unhealthy for democracy and urged political leaders to promote unity rather than internal conflict.
