The Afrobeats star says his uncle’s re-election was a hard-fought battle against a powerful political coalition, praising Osun voters for protecting their votes.
Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has described his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory in the 2026 Osun State governorship election as a “war,” saying the governor overcame a formidable political opposition to secure a second term.
Davido, while congratulating Adeleke on his re-election, said the governor was confronted by an unusually strong political force involving governors, senators and members of the House of Representatives.
The singer made the remarks while celebrating the outcome of the August 15 governorship election, in which Adeleke defeated the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
“Let me congratulate my governor for his re-election for the hard-fought battle. Let me not say battle but war, where you have 17 governors, 50 senators, House of Reps, I don’t know how many they were against one man and he came out victorious. God is good,” Davido said.
The singer, who was an outspoken supporter of his uncle during the election campaign, also praised Osun voters for what he described as their determination to protect their ballots from the polling units through the collation process.

According to him, the level of support shown to the Adeleke family during the election was overwhelming and deeply emotional.
“I can’t remember how many times I cried that day because the love was massive,” he said.
Davido further presented his uncle’s victory as an example of what political leaders could achieve by maintaining a strong relationship with the people.
“My uncle should be an example to all other people out there. It shows all other governors out there that if you work for the people, the people will be with you and God,” he said.
He also thanked the people of Osun State for standing behind Adeleke and his family despite what he described as intimidation and vote-buying during the election.
Davido had repeatedly urged voters during the campaign to protect their votes, making the issue of electoral participation and ballot security a major part of his public support for the governor.
Davido plans youth, sports initiative
Beyond celebrating the election victory, the singer disclosed plans to contribute to youth and sports development in Osun State.
Davido, who serves as chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund, said plans were underway to establish a recreation centre equipped with football fields, swimming pools and basketball courts.
He said the initiative would provide young people with opportunities to develop their sporting abilities and pursue their talents.
The project, according to the singer, is part of his broader interest in supporting young people and creating platforms where they can develop their skills.
Adeleke’s victory gives him another four-year term as governor of Osun State after defeating Oyebamiji in the keenly contested election.
Davido’s public celebration of the result adds a high-profile voice to the post-election reaction, with the singer continuing to use his influence to support his uncle’s political career and initiatives aimed at young people in the state.
