The Ekiti North Progressive Youth Alliance warns against consensus arrangements and automatic ticket returns, calling for equity and justice in the 2027 race.

The Ekiti North Progressive Youth Alliance, a political group in the state, has made a case for Ikole Local Government Area to produce the next senator to represent Ekiti North Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections, citing equity, justice, and fair play.

Tayelolu Ajayi, the group’s coordinator, stated that the local government has not produced a senator since the return of democracy in Nigeria. He also noted that equity, fairness, and justice demand that the next senator for the district should come from the Ikole Council area.

The coordinator also frowned upon an alleged plot by some politicians who believe in returning National Assembly tickets in the state to current occupants. He described the support for such a move as unbelievable, given the poor performance of the administration.

In a statement made available in Ido Ekiti, the headquarters of Ekiti North Senatorial District, Ajayi warned that such a move will not be supported. He also said the group will reject any consensus arrangement being considered for some National Assembly members from the district.

All nine National Assembly seats from Ekiti State are currently occupied by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC). These members include: Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele (Ekiti Central), Senate spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu (Ekiti South), and Cyril Fasuyi (Ekiti North). Ekiti North Senatorial District comprises five local government areas: Ikole, Oye, Ido/Osi, Moba, and Ilejemeje.

“Suppression of other aspirants in the name of consensus is political fraud, which will be wholesomely rejected by voters. Presenting lawmakers as deserving of an automatic return to the National Assembly is anti-democratic,” Ajayi said.

“To entrench the doctrines of justice, equity, and fair play in Ekiti North’s political equation, Ikole Local Government should be allowed to present a candidate for the senatorial seat, rather than angling for recycled leadership that often breeds mediocrity and hatred.”

The group urged stakeholders to embrace excellence, stating that the district has competent professionals capable of delivering development.
