Police in Rivers State launch investigation after parents of a 10-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl report alleged repeated abuse in Mile 3 Diobu.

A 45-year-old man identified as Pascal has been accused of sexually abusing both male and female minors in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

According to reports, the alleged victims are a 10-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl. Their identities have been withheld to protect their privacy. The incidents are said to have occurred repeatedly on Christ Apostolic Street in Mile 3 Diobu, within the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area.

Sources said that when contacted by phone, the suspect claimed he was attempting to “settle” the matter with the father of the 11-year-old girl. He reportedly questioned how the information reached the media and requested the contact details of the mother of the second victim. The suspect was said to have expressed willingness to negotiate with the parents, adding that discussions were already ongoing with the girl’s father.

Meanwhile, the Nkpolu-Oroworhwukwo Police Division in Mile 3 Diobu has opened an investigation following formal complaints filed by Mrs. Ada, the mother of the 10-year-old boy, and Mr. Alex, the father of the 11-year-old girl.

Confirming the development, Mr. Prince Wiro, National Coordinator of the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign (CBRPAC), said both parents officially reported the alleged abuse to the police.

He disclosed that the father of the girl alleged the suspect, described as a friend and former neighbour, had been abusing the child since she was 10 years old. According to him, the father said he was unaware that the suspect allegedly visited his home during work hours to commit the acts and, on other occasions, took the girl to his residence at the Pipeline axis of Egbelu.

Mr. Wiro also stated that the mother of the 10-year-old boy, who previously lived close to the suspect, became aware of the situation after her son complained of persistent discomfort. Further questioning reportedly led the child to disclose that the abuse had been ongoing for about six months.

He added that both children were taken to the Nkpolu Police Division, where statements were recorded and medical examination forms issued. The victims have since undergone medical checks at a hospital.

As of the time of filing this report, the Rivers State Police Command has not released an official statement on the matter.
