Nigerian Police Move to Arrest TikToker Over Admitted False Rape Allegation

Police say the suspect confessed to fabricating the claim and creating fake threats to back it, vows prosecution to deter misinformation.

The men of the Nigeria police, Ogun State Police Command has announced plans to arrest and prosecute a female TikTok content creator, identified as Mirabel, after she admitted that her viral rape allegation was false.

The confession surfaced during a widely shared phone conversation with social media personality Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM). In the recording, Mirabel reportedly acknowledged that she fabricated the allegation while under the influence of drugs and not in a clear state of mind.

“I have been taking drugs, and I was not thinking clearly when I posted the videos,” she allegedly said. She also admitted to creating a fake TikTok account to issue threats against herself in order to strengthen the false narrative.

Confirming the development, the Ogun State Police Command said Mirabel is currently undergoing medical treatment but will be taken into custody immediately after her discharge. The police added that formal charges will be filed against her to serve as a warning against spreading false allegations capable of damaging lives and public trust.

Authorities stressed that while genuine victims of sexual violence are encouraged to speak up, deliberate false claims will not be tolerated under the law.
