Hundreds mourn Zainu Mada, who was abducted and killed despite ransom payments; authorities yet to comment on the rising wave of banditry in Zamfara.

Zamfara State is grappling with another tragic case of banditry after Zainu Mada, an Islamic cleric, was killed days after being abducted.

Abubakar Imam, Chairman of Gusau Local Government Area, condemned the killing and paid a condolence visit to the family of the deceased. He was accompanied by Ibrahim Liman, the lawmaker representing Gusau 2 Constituency at the State House of Assembly.

Mada was kidnapped along the Kotorkoshi-Mada road, where the abductors demanded ransom. Despite the family paying two million naira, handing over a motorcycle, and providing N70,000 in recharge cards, the bandits killed the cleric and instructed his family to collect his body.

His funeral prayer was held in his hometown, attended by hundreds of people who came to pay their respects.

Bandit attacks remain frequent in the area, often linked to local commercial activities. Many residents have lost their lives, and millions of naira have been extorted as ransom.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command for comments were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
