Veteran Nollywood actor Hanks Anuku says President Bola Tinubu inherited Nigeria’s problems and deserves time to address the country’s challenges, insisting that “he’s doing great.”
Veteran Nollywood actor HanksAnuku has urged Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying the country’s current challenges were not created by the present administration.
Anuku made the call during an interview while expressing his support for Tinubu’s administration and defending the President against growing criticism over the state of the country.
According to the actor, Tinubu inherited longstanding problems and should be given sufficient time to address them.
“It’s difficult for somebody in Nigeria to help you, you know. And I stick with Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Nigeria has to be patient for the renewal of this man in the country. It was not spoilt by him, you know. There were people there before him now. Why didn’t they go and attack those people? He has to fix it now,” Anuku said.
Asked whether he believed Tinubu was doing enough to fix the country, the veteran actor gave the President a strong endorsement.
“He’s doing great. Nigeria should be patient. We’re too much in a hurry,” he said.
Anuku Opens Up About Loss, Depression
The actor also spoke emotionally about the death of the mother of his children, revealing that the loss left him deeply affected.
Anuku admitted that he went through a period of depression following her death and sometimes still misses her.
“When I lost my woman, you know, mother of my children, it’s deep and it hurts. I was depressed a bit. Sometimes I miss her and I just wanted to get out. It’s all good. God loves me more,” he said.
The actor further disclosed that he had experienced betrayal from some people he considered friends.
According to him, some individuals allegedly wished him harm, including wanting him to die or lose his mental stability.
“From friends as well, they betrayed me. Yeah, but reach out to do what? Some want you dead. Some even want you to go mad and all that,” he said.
Anuku, however, maintained that he was moving forward with his life and would continue to associate with the President.
“I’m going to be hanging out with Mr. President, so there’s nothing you can do about that. He has to serve his term, his tenure, you know,” he added.
‘The Devil You Know Is Better’
Reacting to suggestions that his support for Tinubu might have been influenced by financial incentives, Anuku dismissed the allegation.
The actor questioned whether those who might succeed Tinubu would necessarily perform better, arguing that Nigerians could end up with an even worse administration.
“Paid? How many people can be better than him? Because he’s this and that. Most people who are going to come are maybe after, maybe they’re even worse off. So the devil you know is better,” Anuku said.
His comments come amid continued public debate over the performance of the Tinubu administration, with Nigerians divided over the impact of its economic and other reforms.
For Anuku, however, the President deserves time to complete his tenure and demonstrate what his administration can achieve.
