Oyo Police Arrest Three Suspects Over Murder of Couple, Four Children

The suspects allegedly attacked the family in their home in Oloba Village, killing the couple and their children before dumping their bodies in a nearby river.

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspects over the alleged murder and robbery of a couple and their four children in Oloba Village, Lagelu Local Government Area of Ibadan.

The suspects — Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward — are all residents of the community, according to the police.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed the arrests in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

According to the police, the suspects allegedly stormed the residence of Ifeanyi Chukwu, his wife and their four children on September 22, armed with a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club.

The attackers allegedly robbed the family of N200,000 in cash, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine fitted with a chainsaw and a spraying machine.

The police said the attack later turned deadly, with Hammed Akinbami allegedly shooting the husband, while Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward allegedly assaulted the wife, striking her on the head.

In a particularly disturbing part of the account, police alleged that two of the children were tied by their hands and legs and thrown into a nearby river.

The remaining members of the family were also allegedly killed, with their bodies subsequently disposed of in the same river.

The remains of the woman have since been recovered, while police divers and other personnel are continuing efforts to locate and recover the remains of the other victims.

The three suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the attack and the recovery of the victims’ remains.

Police said further developments would be communicated as the investigation progresses.
