Lawmakers warn of looming humanitarian crisis as hundreds are killed, kidnapped and displaced amid unchecked bandit attacks

The House of Representatives has raised serious concerns over a worsening wave of killings, kidnappings and coordinated attacks ravaging communities in Kachia and Kagarko Federal Constituency of Kaduna State.

The alarm followed a motion by Hon. Gabriel Saleh Zock, who painted a grim picture of a region under siege, with violence intensifying at an alarming rate.

Describing the situation as “dire and unacceptable,” Zock told the House that repeated attacks have left scores dead and hundreds abducted within months.

According to him, between late 2025 and April 2026, no fewer than 20 to 30 people were killed in multiple assaults across the constituency, while between 260 and 350 residents were kidnapped in coordinated operations.

He revealed that January 2026 alone witnessed over 180 abductions, including brazen attacks on places of worship, underscoring the scale and audacity of the attackers.

Zock further highlighted a February night raid in the Kutaho axis of Kagarko, where 32 people were abducted in a single operation. In Kwaturu Ward of Kachia, he recounted a tragic incident where four members of the same family were killed.

The lawmaker also cited the March 29 attack on Kahir community, which left 13 people dead, about 30 others abducted, and several injured.

Communities such as Kachia town, Katari axis and Kurmin Kare, among others, remain under constant threat, with bandits reportedly operating for hours without resistance.

The sustained violence, he warned, has triggered mass displacement, crippled local economies and pushed residents deeper into poverty, as entire villages are abandoned out of fear.

Following the adoption of the motion, the House called on the Federal Government to urgently deploy additional security forces to the affected areas.

Zock stressed that only swift and decisive intervention can halt the escalating crisis and avert a full-blown humanitarian disaster, while also urging immediate relief support for displaced and affected communities.
