Suspects face separate allegations involving defilement, sexual assault, child abuse, assault and the alleged unlawful procurement of abortion involving minors.

The Anambra State Police Command has arraigned six suspects before the Gender-Based Violence Court in Awka over separate allegations involving child defilement, sexual assault, child abuse, physical assault and the alleged unlawful procurement of an abortion involving a minor.

The suspects were brought before the court on Tuesday, September 23, 2026, following investigations into the respective cases by the command.

According to the police, the suspects are facing separate allegations arising from incidents involving children and teenagers in different parts of the state.

Those arraigned include Chinedu Chiekwu of Umuoli Village, who is accused of defiling an 11-year-old child on September 6, 2026.

Another suspect, identified as Sunday Anele, was arraigned over an allegation of engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl, which reportedly resulted in pregnancy.

Ugochukwu Okereke is accused of luring a 13-year-old girl into a nearby bush, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Similarly, Ebuka Nwachukwu, of Okpoko, is accused of luring a six-year-old child into his room and allegedly sexually abusing her.

The police also arraigned Ogechi Ofoma of Awada, Obosi, over allegations that she used a heated kitchen knife to inflict multiple injuries on her five-year-old daughter, identified as Oluebube Ofoma.

The sixth suspect, Obianuju Okafor, is accused of unlawfully procuring an abortion for her 15-year-old daughter.

The command said the cases were investigated before the suspects were taken to court, as the police continue efforts to prosecute alleged offences involving the abuse and exploitation of minors.

Police Update Viral Child Abuse Video

Meanwhile, the Anambra Police Command has provided an update on a widely circulated video involving a 36-year-old woman who was allegedly seen engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct involving her child.

Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said investigators have concluded their investigation into the matter.

According to Ikenga, the case file has been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice and further action.

He added that the suspect remains in police custody pending further proceedings.

The police said the arraignments and ongoing legal processes underscore the command's response to cases involving sexual offences, child abuse and other forms of gender-based violence in the state.

The allegations against the suspects are subject to determination by the court.
