The collision at the PWD railway crossing left the vehicle extensively damaged, triggered traffic congestion and prompted renewed warnings from LASTMA on railway safety.
A 55-year-old motorist narrowly escaped injury on Friday after a moving train rammed into his Honda car at the PWD railway crossing in Lagos State.
The collision, which occurred on October 9, left the vehicle extensively damaged. However, no casualties were reported, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
The train was travelling towards Agege when it collided with the Honda car, identified by registration number EKY 902 JT.
Following the incident, LASTMA operatives, working alongside security personnel, rescued the driver and removed the damaged vehicle from the railway tracks, allowing the train to continue its journey.
Despite efforts to clear the scene, traffic congestion persisted around the PWD axis as officials worked to manage the flow of vehicles and ease movement for motorists.

The damaged Honda was subsequently handed over to security personnel for further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Although the driver escaped without injury, the incident once again highlights the dangers associated with railway crossings, particularly when motorists attempt to cross without ensuring that it is safe to do so.
LASTMA urged motorists to exercise extreme caution around railway crossings, warning them against attempting to cross when a train is approaching or already in motion.
The agency emphasised that obeying railway safety rules is crucial to preventing avoidable accidents and protecting lives.
While the driver was fortunate to walk away unharmed, the extensive damage to his vehicle serves as a stark reminder of the potentially devastating consequences of collisions involving trains.
Motorists have been advised to remain vigilant, observe safety instructions and give approaching trains the right of way at all times.
