Military clearance operations in Waria Forest and Sarma Village yield weapons, ammunition and communication equipment as troops intensify efforts to dismantle terrorist networks in the North-West.

Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have killed two suspected terrorists and recovered four AK-47 rifles, eight motorcycles and other military-related items during separate clearance operations in Sokoto State.

The operations, conducted on October 15, 2026, targeted suspected terrorist elements as the military intensifies efforts to disrupt armed groups and improve security across Nigeria’s North-West region.

According to the Theatre Command, the first encounter occurred at Waria Forest, where troops of Sector 2 engaged suspected terrorists in a gun battle. One suspect was neutralised during the exchange, while others were forced to abandon their position.

Following the engagement, the troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, two motorcycles and other items believed to be linked to the group’s activities.

In a separate operation at Sarma Village, soldiers encountered another group of suspected terrorists, resulting in a second gun battle. One suspect was killed, while the remaining members of the group reportedly fled the scene.

A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of two additional AK-47 rifles, six motorcycles, four magazines and 23 rounds of ammunition.

The troops also recovered a communication device and other items during the operation, further adding to the military’s haul from the two encounters.

The latest operations form part of ongoing efforts by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to weaken terrorist networks, restrict their movement and dismantle their operational capabilities across the North-West.

The Theatre Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against armed groups and restoring peace to communities affected by insecurity.

It also called on residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest security outpost.

The military expressed appreciation for the continued cooperation of residents, stressing that public support and timely information remain important to ongoing security operations.
