Late Wolves comeback leaves Gunners frustrated as Arteta calls for reflection and response ahead of crucial North London derby
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has urged his players to channel the frustration of their 2–2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers into their upcoming Premier League clash against arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
The Gunners appeared on course for a comfortable victory at Molineux after goals from Bukayo Saka and Piero Hincapié put them 2–0 ahead. However, Wolves mounted a late comeback, with goals from Hugo Bueno and Tom Edozie forcing Arsenal to drop crucial points.
The draw further dented Arsenal’s hopes of ending their 22-year wait for a Premier League title. It was their second consecutive league draw, following a stalemate against Brentford, and means they have managed just two wins in their last seven league matches.
Arsenal now find themselves under pressure once again from Manchester City, who have previously chased them down to clinch the title in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons.
Reacting after the match, Arteta defended his players’ commitment and attitude.
“I am going to be the first one to be close with them because it has nothing to do with attitude or desire — it’s completely the opposite,” Arteta said. “It’s part of football. Where it could have gone wrong today, it went wrong.”
The Spaniard added that the team must confront the disappointment head-on and learn from it ahead of their next fixture.
“We need to go through the pain, look in the mirror, understand what the game requires now and take the next action,” he said.
Meanwhile, England international Bukayo Saka described the upcoming North London derby as a crucial moment for the team.
“It’s a big game and it’s in our control,” Saka said. “What we need to do is focus on that, fix the issues and move forward.”
